Recently, I was on a flight and one of the avialable movies on the WestJet system was X-Men: Dark Phoenix. And before I get into it, I’d like to say that I am a huge X-Men fan, I loved the story of Phoenix in the comics, the 90’s tv show, the works. So when this review turns dark, don’t hate the messenger.
There is a reason why this movie received a 43 on Metacritic. If it has changed from that since the posting of this article, I apologize, but I 100% insist that the 43 is accurate AF.
While the story revolved around Gene Grey turning into the Phoenix, I feel as if they rushed this movie somehow, despite it being delayed it felt rushed. It is completely underwhelming, a pure disappointment. And I love all the actors and actresses in the movie, J-Law 100% makes me happy.

She did a good job trying to hold the role together, fresh from her stint on Game of Thrones, I have to say this was a change for her. Perhaps out of her scope of acting capability? No, its the movie that was wrong, not the actors/actresses.
I will not recommend this movie to anyone for something to enjoy, but I will recommend it as something to use as an example of what not to do as a director.
I give this movie a 4 out of 10, and as usual, I will not be putting any spoilers in this. Just know that the movie is tripe, try to enjoy it. And if you liked it, put your reasoning in the comments below, I wanna know why someone would like this nonsense.
