Once again, I am here to tell you about another fantastic Hindi movie.
Barfi, is a movie about a man who cannot speak or hear, who falls in love through a series of unfortunate events, with an autistic girl. This movie transitions from one love to another and is a compelling story.
It made me laugh, and cheer, I was truly blown away by how well this movie came together.
I have a love for Hindi movies, this is true, but that love comes from movies like this. Genuinely heartfelt, good movies. The acting, despite lack of true vocal communication from the two main characters is undeniably good. You know and understand everything that is happening via narrative and body language. It superbly done.
Priyanka Chopra (Jonas) plays an autistic girl, and well, she does it flawlessly. Ranbir Kapoor plays Barfi, and their on screen chemistry is simply undeniable.
While this movie is from 2012, I want them to go back in time at the Oscars, and award this movie. Because it was truly Oscar worthy. Now I know Bollywood movies don’t really get considered for North American awards very often, but this movie should of been considered, if not win. It is a true gem.
I don’t even want to give this movie a rating because I feel as that would insult it. So 20/10 it is, you read that right. It’s just that good.
Chhapaak is a movie about Acid Attacks in India, this is a drama film directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar in collaboration with Fox Star Studios. This movie is well, horrifying, beautiful, tragic, and masterful. Deepika Padukone is simply amazing in this role.
To say that this movie is about Acid Attacks understates the whole premise of this movie, as this movie acts as a way to draw attention to the on-going issue that plagues India. Acid, despite being recently ruled a controlled chemical in India, is still actively sold and is largely unregulated.
“The trials and triumphs of Malti, an acid attack survivor. From the investigation of the attack to the court proceedings, the medical treatment to the emotional healing. Chhapaak is the story of the unquashable human spirit.“
This movie touched me, and as you all know, if you have read my previous posts about Bollywood movies, I have a soft spot for them. This movie is superbly done, and I have to commend all those involved in making this movie. This is drawing attention towards something that should not happen in civilized society. And as this is based on a true story, it is even more important that they use this calibre of actors/actresses to bring forth this issue.
Deepika Padukone is amazing, and I cannot stress that enough. Having seen this movie a few times now, and each time it hits me in the feels, in all the right ways. I cannot express my love for this movie enough.
As you can see, acid attacks are something of a bad thing. And these are only the reported attacks, there is most likely, many that go unreported due to acid killing people. Not that I am trying to turn this review of this gorgeous movie into a political statement, but, it sorta is a political statement, that change is required.
More often than not, these attacks are by men, against women, and usually because those men cannot have that woman, so he will ‘ruin’ her for all other men. It is a sickening thing. But I digress, lets get back to the movie shall we?
Both the title track, and video require you to open them in a new window due to copyright stuff by the copyright holder, sorry for any inconvenience. But we highly recommend you look them up on the YouTubes and see for yourself.
In tradition of my previous posts with regards to movie reviews, I will not go into any more details, but I hope that I have provided enough for you, the reader, to want to see this movie. It is truly worth it. I give this a 9.5 out of 10. It is one of my favourites.
What did you think of it? Drop a comment down below!
It has been a minute since I reviewed a movie, so lets start this off on the right foot. I’d like to introduce you to War, a Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff movie that simply does not dissappoint. This movie is intriguing because it tells quite the story. It leads you in a dozen different directions before bringing it home with a grand finale.
I have a tendancy to post vague reviews because I want people to go and see the movies, I just rate them out of 10 and say if it is good or bad, and I’ll do the same with this. If my introduction to this movie didn’t spell it out for you, its great. You should see it, throw on subtitles if you don’t speak Hindi, as it is in-fact, a hindi movie. Which if you’ve read my reviews, you know I have a love for them.
This movie is great, it showcases two very good actors in an onslaught from start to finish that has you questioning what is happening along the way. But its not just some ‘rage filled war movie’ no no, there is heart here. Genuine heart and it is worth taking the time to understand the premise of this movie. Because by the end, you’ll have experienced your feelings going in a few directions.
So what will I rate this movie? Well, a solid 10/10 to be honest. I know people who watch it will say its not a 10/10 movie, but those people need to understand just how amazing this story is, and they simply haven’t seen the story through my eyes. If you’re a fan of Hrithik Roshan, like I am, you will get this movie and you’ll love it just as much as I do. This movie also introduced me to Tiger Shroff, I have never seen anything with him before and I am glad I was introduced to this fine gentleman, because he is a treat.
The dance numbers in this movie are solid as well, and the songs have made my playlist, all around this movie is great. If you have Amazon Prime, you can watch this on there. And I recommend you do, it is delicious.
So I went to see Frozen II. I don’t normally go to the movie theatre, but I had an opportunity to go and see Frozen II the other day, and I did.
This movie is a good movie for the kids, but in my opinion not as good as the first one. I found the first movie had a lot more interest and story to it.
Maybe it is because the characters are already established, but it just felt like the story was lacking a story for the characters. Do not get me wrong, there was a story, it just didn’t have any depth for the characters, in my humble opinion of course.
I won’t take long reviewing this movie because it is a solid 5 out 10. Kids will love it, parents will probably be bored out of their mind.
Despite my low rating though, I recommend everyone give it a go, perhaps I am overthinking it, maybe I am, maybe I am not, but I feel as if it is lacking.
Happy New Year is a hindi movie starring Shah Ruhk Khan. This movie is a comedy, drama, but more than anything, it is the comedy. The female interest of the movie is played by Deepika Padukone. And when she plays opposite of Shah Ruhk Khan, you can bet that there is some on screen chemistry.
I have a soft spot for Hindi movies, and this one is like no other, it is so bad that it is good. This won awards, and both Shah Ruhk Khan and Deepika Padukone felt really bad accepting the awards because of how bad the movie was.
But when you are Shah Ruhk Khan and over 3 billion people know you as a house hold name, you’re going to win awards for just about anything.
The movie is about a man seeking revenge for his father, and to do so, he must heist diamonds from the man who betrayed his father. But to do so, he must do something completely unimaginable, he must compete in an international dance competition.
The movie stars more than just Shah Ruhk Khan and Deepika Padukone, but I won’t go into details here, just know that the comedy lineup here is great.
As the movie progresses the stars each face their own situations they must overcome. From epilepsy, so not being able to dance, to requiring anger management, and being a drunk. Obviously all fueled by hate, and for revenge.
This cast of characters comes together rather well in a terrible way, this movie shouldn’t work, it shouldn’t of won awards, but yet, somehow it did and I am thankful for it. Sometimes a movie can be so bad, that it is good. And this movie is one of those.
I give this movie a solid 8 out of 10. Without spoilers, its good, if you have time to read my reviews, you have time to throw on this movie, hit the subtitle button, and watch, laugh, cringe, and smile. Its worth it.
