Title Screen. I always got an art deco vibe from the game.
I have started playing Earthbound and I decided, that in concert with that playthrough, that I would document some of my encounters, primarily interesting quotes and conversations. For the most part, this is not going to be a step-step plot synopsis; there will, however, be spoilers to a certain degree, as certain story and gameplay elements will be pictured.
Before I really get into what is probably going to amount to little more than a tarted-up gallery, I should note that I have previously played this game (25 years ago when it was released), so I have some familiarity and I have made, and will continue to make, decisions based on this pre-existing knowledge. I will also no shy away from using some informationresources to make sure that I don’t miss anything.
Alternate title screen, much better, in my opinion.
First “joke” I guess, I named the main character Satan. I hope it will have some humourous effects throughout the game.
Some people have a really liberal viewpoint in regards to that Satan fella!
Good times…
…and bad times.
Moving up!
All’s good.
I know there is a lot of arguments on the Internet about the quality of writing and translation of this game, but some of the deadpan things that are said to you are just fantastic, the above being a great example. It is only made better by the fact that you play the game in the role of a 13-year old; what a disarming thing to say to a child!
Some of the things that people say are a little quirky.
Wow, you can probably hear this a lot more today, not trying to be political or anything…
Sometimes I shudder when I think about the people that prepare or handle the food that I buy and how those people think or conduct themselves.
Damn it!
Eggs seem to play a big role. Also, don’t you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby!
This screenshot is more for the people that have played the game. For those not in the know, “Pokey” is the game’s primary antagonist. For those familiar, kinda weird considering Pokey is also a 13-year old.
That’s it for this entry. The game is largely broken into sectors, and I have just completed the first sector, so my next entry will focus on the second, which is in my opinion, much more interesting (special bonus surprise: sectors three and four are my favourites, and probably the best in the game!).
